Crash Event Data Recorder and Transceiver

Abstract Link to heading

Road accidents are presently a serious issue for the safety of an individual. Most serious being the Hit and Run accident cases where the vehicle responsible for the accident escapes the accident scene thus making it difficult for the investigators to find the accused. Presently Event Data Recorders (EDR) are used to capture the details of the crashed vehicle but no such device is present which can capture the details of the vehicle involved in the accident. Adding to this, EDR devices are costly and cannot be installed on 2 wheel motor vehicles which are common in India.

Therefore, to address this issue, innovation in present device is required to track the vehicle involved in a road accident. Along with this, the device should be adaptable to all types of road vehicles and should be strong enough to withstand the accident. Thus, our project focuses on modifying the existing device such that it is adaptable to all road vehicles and the device records and tracks the vehicles involved in a crash event.

Objectives Link to heading

The main objectives of this project are

  • To design and develop a suitable device to track the vehicle involved in an accident.
  • To optimize the design for use in all types of road vehicles.
  • To record the data during the event of an accident for further investigation

Conclusion Link to heading

The project Crash Event Recorder and Transceiver not only did give our Project team an experience in solving real life problems using engineering principles but also exposed us to various techniques like Data Analysis, Ansys simulation, Software sculpting. Along with this, working on the project taught us Team work and Project management techniques. The project being a mix of Electronic, Computer Science and Mechanical engineering allowed us to interact with students of different engineering departments. And finally our targets in this projects are well achieved.
